Volunteer – Nutritional Assistance

Nutrition is one of the most important needs a person has. There are many people in the United States and beyond who do not get adequate food. You can help with this problem by volunteering with some of the agencies below. By giving your time, you are helping someone receive a warm meal.

For more information about these organizations, please contact our office at 575-646-3200 or email volunteer@nmsu.edu.

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger

Volunteering helps make a difference. One volunteer can process 300 pounds of food in one hour, which equals to 250 meals. That same week, those meals will become available to a family in need.

HUNGER FACTS:
-Of that total El Paso population, 25% are people who live below the poverty level and 34.8% are children.
-The Texas Education Agency estimates that there are 135,000 children in El Paso County that are at risk of food insecurity.

Types of Volunteer Work:
Food Sorting: Volunteers will assess and sort boxes of food items and household products that have been donated. Pre-sort, repack, and relabel to prepare for our partner agencies to distribute the food.
Some food sorting and unloading may require: Lifting up to 40 lbs., stand long periods of time, bending, and reading small print.

Volunteers are needed M-F 9am-12pm & 1pm-4pm, Saturdays 8am-12pm (by appointment). Minimum Commitment: 2 hours
